"The Peninsula" as locals call it, is the three-mile-long stretch with the ocean (and it's wide sandy beaches) and the harbor with its countless boats. The Peninsula is home to two piers, shoreline, surfers, and sunbathers. Beyond the half way point is Balboa Village, which is home to the historic Balboa Pavilion and the "Fun Zone".
The Peninsula is great for many restaurants and nightlife - in fact, the first mile of the Peninsula is Newport Beach's busiest area at night (the rest of the Peninsula tends to stay quieter). You can also catch the ferry to Balboa Island (a quick ride) or to Catalina Island (about an hour). Finally, at the end of the Peninsula is "The Wedge" - this entrance to Newport harbor is so called because the manmade jetty forces waves into a corner, the result can be the largest waves in Orange County. When there is a tropical storm offshore it is absolutely worth coming here to see the power of nature.
There are many multifamily units and single family homes. Homes on the water begin at $5 Million and can be as high as $40 Million. Smaller homes not on the water range from $2-5 Million.
